History, traditional use
Saw palm has a long history of traditional use in North American Indians, especially in maintaining fertility and potency. The Indians and the later settlers ate the berries among other things for the muscle-strengthening and sex drive-maintaining effects such as a powerful erection and well-functioning testicles.
But especially for the beneficial properties of keeping normal urinary tract and prostate healthy. Also the applications as a sedative and as support for normal functioning kidneys were described in people medicines.

- Phytosterols: delta-7-steroids and delta-5-steroids mainly free beta-titosterol and its 3-0-glycoside, 3-0-palmitate-3-0-myristate and 6'-0-acyl-3-O- glucosyl derivatives; also stigmasterol and daucosterol; further: cycloartenol, lupeol, lupenone methylcycloartenol, campestrol.

- Fatty oil (palmetto oil, min. 9%): triglycerides and free fatty acids of oleic acid (at least 3%), lauric acid (at least 2%) and myristic acid at minus 1.2%); also isomyrislic acid, palmitic acid (at least 1.1%), linoleic acid minus 0.4%), copric acid (at least 0.2%), caprylic acid (at least 0.2%), caproic acid minus 0.2%), polmitoleic acid (min. 0, 1%), stearic acid (min. 0.1%, linolenic acid (min. 0.1%)

- Long chain, aliphatic (fatty) alcohols: docosanol, tetracosanol, hexocosanol, octacosanol, triocontonol.
- Flavonoids: the flavonols isoquercitrin and kaempherol-3-o-b-d-glucosides; rhoifoline.
- Enzymes.
- Tanning substances.
- Phenolic acids: caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid.
- Alkaloids.
- Carbohydrates: decanuric acid (an acidic polysoccharide) with as main monosaccharides galactose (38.4%), orabinose (18.7) and yroic acid (14%), glucose.

Storage
Do not store capsules and extract powders in direct sunlight, keep it dry, at room temperature (15-25 ° C) and out of reach of small children.
